Other Life Forms Empty Other Life Forms

Post by Fizzie Sat Aug 09, 2008 4:04 am

So, we're planning to send a signal towards a certain planet to alert any life that may be on it that we're here.

Do you think this is a good idea or a bad idea?

I think it's a good idea in the way that I find this stuff kinda exciting. But I also think it could be bad if the other life forms aren't friendly, or if they are friendly, but take our signal as some kind of attack or something.

This planet is meant to be, or assumed to be, very much life Earth. I think it'd be amazing if we were to meet alien life forms, but can you imagine how amazing and confusing it would be if we met other human life from there?

I say that because the planet is meant to be like a second Earth. So what if the life there is another lot of humans? Wouldn't that just blow your mind and make you wonder just how many planets there are with other humans on it?

Nah, it wouldn't. Everyone already knows that we're not alone, it wouldn't cause that much chaos

Not really. There are many religions that refuse to accept that we're not the only beings in the universe. It could cause those types of religions to plunge into chaos of some sort.

I would imagine those types of people who rely on their religion so heavly to get through life, whose religion is everything to them; to feel completely and utterly lost and possibly we could have a mass suicide thing going on.

    You just never know.

Some people just don't like and/or can't handle change for various reasons.

Considering the universe keeps on going and going, there MUST be other life out there. I've always had an interest in this and would love to see other life forms.

if that the case i cant tell you then that the universe does not then, but if you research a little you will find evidents that everything is moving a way from each other stars ects, and if you can con seed that the universe is still expanding it there then for can't go on non stop, this does not take anything away from the "god" factor

considering its size, it might as well.

Plus, it's been scientifically proven to have a boundary. I'm too lazy to look up proof for this, so if you don't believe me it's your own loss of education.

As for the topic at hand, they're not going to find anything. The probability is less than one in a billion chances. In that light, they shouldn't be wasting money on it. The bottom line is, yes, we're most likely not alone because of the sheer size of the universe, but the probability that we're ever going to meet intelligent life on another planet (within the next 3000 years assuming we're still alive) is virtually nil, so you might as well stop hoping for any developments.

I guess that's one of the uses of Roleplay heh

We can roleplay as if there was life in other planets and we can roleplay as if there isn't Razz

It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be ZERO.

From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.

    ...had to be said

I can't believe I'm going to say this, considering my love of RPing, but there is more to life than roleplay.

*smites both Chojin and Meira* SHAME!

to be back on topic: The universe is what it is, a mystery so large we cannot hope to understand it and thus the myriad of theories concerning it's size. All considered, there cannot, absolutely cannot, be no other intelligent life within space. Rebuke and abuse all you like, religious followers, I'm Christian too but only blind faith can give you a certainty that there is no life within the universe, and that is not what i believe in. Im not flaming, im not abuseing, im not even pressuring people to believe as I do (though my mind-control machine is coming along well).

I'm merely working upon logic based upon proven study with a little of hope mixed in.

PS. please tell me I'm wrong cause I've been waiting for a good forum argument....

Logic can also be applied to suggest that there IS life on other planets. Think about it. Out of the millions upon billions of stars out there, more than half of these have at least one planet or planetoid orbiting them. There are being more discovered all the time. It is a statistical impossibility that we are on the only habitable planet. To think that our own planet is the only one to be capable of supporting life, even from a scientific point of view, is being close minded. Our own planet holds proof that life finds a way of living in the most inhospitable of places.

Who said that this life on other planets has to adhere to the physics and laws that govern life on this planet?
