    Resident Evil: Natural Selection.

Racoon City… a name that strikes fear into the hearts of men. After the nuclear meltdown cover up was exposed, it became clear that the city was ravished by the undead. Those responsible were not found.

Umbrella Corporation… for the incident at Racoon City, they were responsible. They posed as a medical research facility, but underneath that, they were much more. The Umbrella Corporation specialises in genetic and viral experiments, illegally.

At the beginning of the Racoon City incident, Umbrella left the city for dead. The city became quarantined. After the city was sanitised, by way of precision tactical nuclear strike, it became unusable. This forced Umbrella to relocate.

Umbrella relocated to a remote desert region. Umbrella decided to change their front. No longer did they pose as a medical research facility. Umbrella commissioned a massive nuclear power station. The power station wasn’t just a façade, they did, in fact, provide power for cities and towns some distance away.

A few years went by, people began to forget the Racoon City incident. A feeling that was soon forgotten when the power station went critical. The explosion killed all those within the Umbrella facility, incinerating their bodies. The T Virus had been released. The Red Queen was not wanting a repeat of Racoon City. The head’s of Umbrella, not surprisingly, were not present at the site at the time of termination, along with the vital information to get their investments up and running again.

Whilst at the site of the power station, Umbrella had been working on improving the T Virus, trying to rid it of its reanimation qualities. Failing to do so, an insider set timers to release the virus into the facility, looking for a quick way out of Umbrella. The one responsible for releasing the virus was terminated, after the timers released the virus, in secret, probably orchestrated by the Red Queen, herself. Red Queen overloaded the reactors to ensure that the virus would not spread.

Umbrella took this as a sign, and so, abandoned the Red Queen. In place of the Red Queen, they created an even more intelligent version. Overseer was created in the place of Red Queen. Umbrella decided to announce their retirement. Of course, this was only a front. Secretly, behind all backs, they continued their dastardly experiments. Even though they had left the eye of the world, they were never out of mind. People somehow knew that Umbrella was but the first in a long line of Genetic and Viral Experimentation facilities.

A full 20 years after the Racoon City incident, Umbrella was at it again. With Overseer fully operational, there have only been a few minor outbreaks, which were quickly contained and quelled. The Overseer has realised that if atrocities like the T Virus were to be stopped, it would have to be done by complete termination of the human race.

Overseer flooded the air with the virus, infecting all those within. The containment program kicked in and almost killed all of the infected. Overseer overrode the programming, releasing those that had been infected to spread and infect the world.

The race is on. One species will survive. It will be survival of the fittest...

They were everywhere. The smell of death and carnage overpowered Francis’ senses, forcing his eyes to water.
“Jesse!” He called out for his teammate. The original team had consisted of six members, but they all knew the risks of this mission. Jesse and Francis were the last two members
“Yeah, right here.” Jesse called from across the room. Francis turned to look at her, but still couldn’t see her.
“Where are you?” Francis called out.
“Right here.” Came Jesse’s voice, this time she was closer. He blinked away the moisture of his eyes as he began to focus more. He could see her now. A smile tried to break through on his face, and very nearly did. It was halted when one of the undead stumbled out from between two containers just beside Jesse, grabbing her and forcing her to the ground. Jesse went down screaming for help. Francis brought his handguns to bear on the undead in a flash and fired. There was nothing but the dying screams of his final teammate. Another undead quickly filled his field of vision. Before Francis could do anything, it was upon him, forcing him to the ground as the other did to Jesse.

Francis sat up and tried to push the undead of him, but succeeded in pushing away bed covers and medical equipment. He looked around frantically for just a few moments. His breathing was heavy and his brow thick with sweat. He fell back onto the bed and placed his hands over his face.
“You’re awake.” Came a female voice. It sounded familiar, yet at the same time strange, as if he knew the voice from a far off place. Francis removed his hands from his face and looked to the source. He saw the beautiful Dr. Retz.
“I had that dream again, doc.” Said Francis as he felt the tears threatening to flood his eyes. He knew it wasn’t a dream, and so did Dr. Retz.
