    Work

Post by Fizzie on Mon Jan 12, 2009 3:42 am

Yep, a boring work topic to discuss what you do for work, what your most favourite and least favourite jobs have been so far, but to make things more interesting, how about also talking about your dream job and/or what you always wanted to be when you grew up?

    Hehe!!

    Least favourite job:

Well, I've had two jobs that I had little or no interest in. One of them was a chip shop and the other was a factory that made display units and clip frames.

    Most favourite job:

Blockbuster Entertainment, without question. I actually knew what I was doing from the start. I was working with games and films. I had fun working there, as well. We weren't always serious behind the counter, and the customers enjoyed that.

    Dream Job:

I've pretty much always wanted to be a writer... enough said, lol

    Least Favorite Job:

My cleaning job w/ my mom. I have the duty of sweeping, mopping and vacuuming. At least I don't have to do bathrooms.

    Most Favorite Job:

    Don't have one... yet.

    Dream Job:

I plan to go to collage and study art. I want to be an artist (don't know what kind yet) for hire. I have no clue yet. As long as it's in this area.

    Least favourite job:

1st year carpentry apprentice, you get absolutely destroyed. Sweep, lift the really heavy stuff and your paid jack all to do it... not very good, but the end result is splendifferous,

    Most favorite job:

Professional Jugger player. Ok, so it aint up to that level yet, but you never know when it might just sweep the world and there are international leagues already. But i am already a player... and thats good enough for me.

    Dream job:
one of two; either a weapons designer for square-enix or pay-per-play game tester. Both would be awesome

    Least Favourite Job:
Working at McDonalds. Crappy hours, crappy pay, crappy conditions, and most of the people who worked there were crappy too.

    Favourite Job so far:
Working as a receptionist for a little hydraulics company. My boss was pretty cool, he could be a bit tense sometimes but he was usually cool, I got good hours, decent pay and good conditions - plus I could flex my timetable around uni and exams, and if I had to not work for a month because of uni (ie when I have prac, it's 8-4 every day at a school) I could take sick and/or holiday leave for it without any trouble.

    Dream job:
To be a high school English and Japanese teacher. I've got a year of my degree to go!!

    Least favourite job:

I worked in the cafeteria at Florida College while I was a student there. My whole job was counting people as they came through the door and checking IDs to make sure each person really was a student. It was so freaking boring, and I made a little over seven bucks an hour.

    Most favourite job:

When I was 19, I was a nanny for two kids in Connecticut. One of the girls, the six year old, had cancer. She was really sick when I first started, but fortunately, by the time I had to leave to go back to school, she was as active and healthy as any six year old. Her cancer has been in remission ever since - that's ten years.

I also really enjoyed being a part time caregiver for a quadrapilegic woman who's a year older than me. Her mother paid the rent for the apartment where she and my college roommate and I all lived, and she provided $500 a month for food. The woman we were assisting has a lot of the same interests that I do. We used to talk about comics, especially X-Men. We went to movies and watched TV together too.

    Dream job:

Ever since I was nine years old, I wanted to be a published author. In my early 20's though, I changed my mind; I didn't want to be paid to write. I didn't want it to become a chore. Now, I don't know what I'd say. I do enjoy my current job for the most part - working with people with autism - but as a program manager, I'm on-call 24/7. So I'd like to do what I'm doing now but not have it eat up every minute of my life. I live and breathe this job, and sometimes, this job is suffocating.

It's only a Saturday thing right now coz it's been ages since I worked, and I've been told I gotta "take one step at a time". But hopefully, if I like it, and I'm good at it, I can go full-time!!

Oh wow!! I haven't posted in here for ages either!! XD

I've been loving my job at Gardners Books (though some of the people have really pushed me over the year I've been there), and I'm currently working 12 hours Saturdays, and 12 hours Sundays.

Hoping to do some overtime during the Bank Holiday coming up. =D

And, I'm currently writing up cover letters to send off to Disney Store and Pets At Home in Cambridge, as they're most definatly my priorities for application!! =D

    Problem is, I dunno if my printer's got any ink left. XD So I'll have to try printing them here, and if not, it'll have to wait 'til I have some money and I can print them at the library. ^^;

Or you could try emailing them?

I'm sick of not working. However, not many places are willing to employ someone that has been out of work for a long time >_<

Yeah, I'm gonna be trying that as well. It's just that the websites usually have a general mailing adress (if any), so you never know if it'll get to where it's meant to.

They should have phone numbers, so you could phone up and ask them who to email it to. If personnel don't have an email address, then they should let you know

Yeah... as expected, that kinda isn't working. XD These companies really don't want you to have direct email addresses or phone numbers. XD

So it's gonna be a case of mailing stuff out via snail mail, and handing stuff out myself when I get up there. =)

Let's see now... so far I've had interviews with Game, Gamestation, and Gifts Galore. And I've got interviews coming up for Build-A-Bear and Disney Store.

I got the job at Gifts Galore after having a trial day on Wednesday. So far, it looks like I'll only be working Wednesdays and Thursdays, and it's only until January. It's a shame it's only a seasonal thing because it's an awesome little shop with lots of fun stuffs.

If I can though, I'd like to get a second job, so I can work more hours, and also have a chance of something permanent somewhere.

The other shop I'd like an interview with is Paperchase. Hehe!!

Hmm, so I see I haven't updated this for ages. Well, here we go. After Gifts Galore, I was jobless for months. Then I got a job at WHSmith, and whilst my manager was awesome, and the work itself was pretty good; the area manager, and the majority of customers were assholes.

Recently though, I've started working at Primark. And I love it. I don't know many people there yet, but those that I do know seem pretty cool, and as I'm not stuck on till all day, I seem to get more cheerful customers. =3

Moving to Bristol in a couple of months will mean another change. I'm gonna try get a transfer to the Primark there, but I'll also have to apply to whatever else I can, just incase.

God dammit, I'm jobless again!! D= Do. Not. Want.

Yeah. Unfortunatly, I didn't get my transfer to the Primark here in Bristol. So now I'm back on Job Seekers (for the first time in years), and back job hunting again.

So far, I've had an interview with Build-A-Bear, which, I'm sure you'll agree, is so the job for me! But, I've not heard back from them yet about getting a second interview. *sads*

So I haven't posted in here for a while. XD Most of you know I'm Christmas temping at GAME right now, and I'm hoping sooo much that it turns permanent.

I'm really loving it there. =) The only thing I'd have to say isnt' so good, is the amount of "sales pitches" we're now expected to throw at the customers. They hate it, and they've told me so.

And, as a customer myself, I can honestly say that I avoid places where I know some sales assistant is going to come at me with a bunch of sales info and/or offers. If I want to know something: I'll ask.

Having said that, you did get customers who look quite lost and confused, and it's those I prefer to approach, because I know they need help. And I can't tell you how good it feels to help them. =)
