Avatar: The Last Airbender (or the Legend of Aang)
A Japanese anime influenced American cartoon, Avatar tells the story of a world that is split into four nations, Fire, Earth, Water and Air. Within each nation are benders (*giggle*) that can manipulate their nations element through actions that are based on actual martial arts. The Avatar is born every generation, a person who embodies the spirit of the planet itself, and is capable of learning all four forms of bending (Airbending, Waterbending, Earthbending and Firebending). To which tribe the Avatar is born to varies each time an Avatar dies, going in a cycle of air, water, earth and fire. The premise tells of a young boy called Aang, from the Air nation, discovering that he is the next Avatar, despite the fact he shouldn't have been told until he was sixteen. He runs away, only to get caught up in a storm, and becomes frozen in ice for the next one hundred years. Without the Avatar, the world falls into war, the Fire nation opposing all of the other tribes. He is finally discovered by Katara and Sokka, two members of the Water tribe, who become his loyal companions throughout the show.
I was staying at a friend's house and we watched the entire first book in one night, and it was epic. I'm seriously in love with this series, and hope to get more of the DVDs when they get released. Any other fans out there?
