Francis finally made it to the front of the queue. He could smell the hotdogs from where he stood. He grabbed a plate and made his way straight for them. He got to where the hotdogs should've been, only to find that there were no more.
"Hey, what's going on?" He said in disgust as he made sure the hotdogs were nowhere else.
"What's wrong, dear?" Asked one of the cafeteria staff.
"Don't tell me all the hotdogs are gone." Francis said as he kept looking around.
"I'm sorry, but the last ones were just taken-"
"May. Francis asked me to hold onto a few earlier on, so I made sure they were put away." Said another one of the staff as she bent down behind the counter and opened a door. She pulled out a plate of three hotdogs and smiled at Francis as she passed them to May. Francis put the empty plate he had taken on top of the counter and smiled as he rubbed his hands together vigorously.
"Thank you so much, Rachel. I owe you for this." Francis said as he took the hotdogs and went to pay for them.
Joey watched a red-haired student looking very worried and having a conversation with the staff. He realised this was a student from this Garden. Joey was a few people behind the other student so he couldn't hear the exchange. Not that it worried him. Joey could now reach the counter. He grabbed a plate and began to pick his food. He knew what he wanted, and he hoped they had some left. He saw what he wanted, a plate, full to heaving with chips. None of this frozen stuff, either. These were chips made from the freshest potatoes.
Francis stood with his plate of hotdogs, looking for a place to sit, any place. He didn't really care if he had to stand, but he preferred to sit down and eat. The exercise was useless, there was not a single place to sit down and eat. He didn't even recognise anyone there. This was not an uncommon thing. With Sleipnir being one of the biggest Garden facilities, there were, quite often, many people that knew every single stupid, not even by the face.
Finally Francis spotted someone he knew. He may not have liked it, but the only person he actually could put a name to the face was Olivia. He never really got on with Olivia, but neither did quite a lot of the students. Oliva was so closed off to everyone, and even fewer knew what she was really like. Even those people close to her never knew exactly what she was like. No one knew anything about her life before Garden, or very few. Francis was never one of them, so he never knew. Reluctantly, he walked up to her.
"Don't bother, I looked." Francis said, even if she didn't really listen or know what he was going on about.
"Hmmm...?" she said with little effort as she half turned towards him.
"I'm guessing most of these are refuges from Leviathan," Francis said, referring to the recent incident at Leviathan. The event that caused many people to lose their homes, including the students of Leviathan Garden, "you won't find many people you know sitting at these tables."
Francis scowled to himself as he walked away from Olivia. He took a bite out of one of the hotdogs as he walked away. Francis would stand and eat if he had to. He didn't understand why Olivia was so down on people all the time; it's not as if people haven’t tried to be her friend. There was something about her that Francis couldn't quite put his finger on, nor did he know why. Perhaps on of the Levvies could get her to open up a bit. He let the thought pass out of his head without paying it much attention, as he finished off one of the three hotdogs on his plate. He immediately started on another hotdog.
"Is it always this busy?" Came a voice from behind him. Francis turned to see who it was. He found himself faced with a male student that he had never met. The other student was slightly smaller than himself. His brown hair looked as if it was meant to be a mess, but wasn't quite there. His jeans looked like they had been dragged all over the place by stampeding Chocobos. The student was holding a plate of chips that was heaped as if he just took the whole lot.
"Only since the Levvies got here." Francis replied with a mock smile.
"I'm sorry... Levvies?" Asked the student, confusion prominent in his voice.
"Leviathan Garden students." Francis explained, feeling slightly embarrassed at the fact that he may have just potentially insulted someone who may be from Leviathan Garden, at ths point he wasn't sure. The student seemed to think the comment over in his head.
"You know, I'm a Levvie, as you called us," Said the student in a tone that was either hinting at annoyance or just a mockery of it. Francis opened his mouth the apologise, but was cut off before he could say anything, "I like it, the names Joey." The student now know as Joey shifted the chips onto one hand, while offering the other to Francis.
"Francis." He replied as he shook Joey's hand.
