    Drinking

Post by Fizzie on Fri Mar 19, 2010 8:48 pm

Again, before anyone even thinks of it (coz it happens all the time), don't start with the "well, nicotine is worse" stuff - it has it's own topic, go there!! You can't make one thing sound better by attacking another.

The main problems with people who drink, is when they go over their limit. Again, they don't give a second thought to the people around them. They don't care who they hurt, or on a lesser extreme, who has to take on responsibility of babysitting them, as they have to try get them home safely (which isn't an easy job when the drunk idiot is being difficult and pushing you to the limits of just wanting to say "fuck it" and leave them in a puddle of their own puke in the street).

If you wanna drink: keep within your limit.

I'm glad to say I ALWAYS keep in my limit. I know when i've had enough and I stop.

    Sadly i dont always keep within my limit *shame* but i tend to be fairly good with it. I do know some people though that drink a crazy amount (One of my friends managed the other day to drink;
    - 9 Beers
    - 4 shots of tequilla
    - 3 shots of vodka orange
    - 2 shots of gin
    - 1 bottle of cider
    - 2 shots of whiskey
    - 5 whiskey and cokes
    And 3 unnamed shots.

Needless to say, they did some pretty stupid things that night, just about all of which they regretted the next morning.

Also, because i cant work out whether or not this goes in drinking or smoking (Seeing as both say talk about the other in the other thread, and this straddles the 2), Handy graph!. The colours represent hard (red), soft (yellow) and borderline (orange) drugs, of dependancies and physical harm from use. One thing i do find very interesting to note, however, is how low both cannabis and ecstacy are on the charts.

So theres my 2 cents Smile

    That's insane. o_o

As long as I'm still myself (just kinda wobbly and giggly and usually a little more confident/brave - but not to the point of doing anything regretful); I'm still in my limits. =)

Alcohol is higher than I thought it'd be. And yeah, cannabis and ecstacy are lower than I thought too.

Yeah, you probably heard about the whole thing a couple months back of the scientific advisory board having a load of members quit/fired because the government planned to make changes to drug laws without consulting them, so the board sent a memo saying "We heard you're planning these changes, and you're legally required to consult us on this decision", which the people trying to pass the vote responded along the lines of "We're having this vote in 2 days, can you gather some evidence about this?", then when the board surprisingly didnt turn up anything in 2 days, they went and voted against the scientific community's advice anyways.

Also, looking at tests done on mice and scaling up, the amount of cannabis required to OD compared to the amount normally taken in a "hit" is about 40,000:1 (As opposed to roughly 4:1 to 10:1 with alcohol). Taking into account half lives of cannabinoids, this means you'd need to take about 15000 joints in the space of anywhere between 20 hours to 10 days, so even at the maximum, assuming you don't sleep, you'd need to go through one joint roughly every 58 seconds, constantly, for 10 days, without breaking for sleep, food, drink, anything at all. Suddenly, it becomes a little impossible to OD. Of course, this says nothing of the long term effects of cannabis, but thats a story for another day, kiddies Very Happy

That's interesting stuff, Kazenone. And that last bit I heard with slightly different stats, but the end result was the same; it being impossible to OD on cannabis. I won't lie, and I've already told Kuki this, I've used Cannabis, and did so for a while; I already knew that to be true. The more you smoke it, the more relaxed you get, and you end up falling asleep on it... unless you're just not human, lol. That doesn't mean I condoned it, as there are long term affects from prolonged use, Cannabis Psychosis for one.

Anyway, back on the topic of drinking...

If you've not seen my Facebook page, tonight, I've been out having a few drinks. There several people here that know I can handle my drink, because they've witnessed it (gotta do that again, btw). My sister, on the other hand, can't. I was enjoying a nice drink with my dad and my, for the sake of argument, girlfriend. From the moment we met with my sister, I was having to hold her up in the pub. End of the night came, and she wanted to carry on drinking by going to the club. It was already 2, so they wouldn't have let her in. She wouldn't accept it, and was almost arrested, but they just escorted her home. Unfortunately, I felt I had to make sure that she got home alright because I was thinking of my niece and nephew. She proved tonight that she doesn't have, what we call, "The James' Genes"; she's the only one that can't handle her drink.

This is the kind of thing that happens when you push your limit; you can end up ruining other people's nights, while doing yourself serious harm.
