“Police are appealing for help to trace a man missing from Redditch whose car was found abandoned on the M42 in the Alvechurch area.
Thomas Ryan, aged 25, was last seen at about 12.30am yesterday (Tuesday, 5 June) at home in Birmingham Road where he lives with his parents. He was not there when they got up in the morning and they reported him missing at about 3pm the same day when he failed to return.
By then Mr Ryan’s car, a black Fiat Stilo Active, had already been found by motorway police abandoned between junction 1 and 2 of the M42 near Coopers Hill in the Alvechurch area. When it was discovered at about 5am it was in perfect working order.
Police, including dog handlers, launched a search in the area and that is continuing. The force helicopter has also been involved.
Mr Ryan, who has not gone missing before, is white and described as about 5 ft 8 inches in height, slim and with short black hair. He is believed to be wearing a black football top with white stripes.
Inspector Ben Hembry of West Mercia Police said: “It is totally out of character for Mr Ryan to go missing like this and there is no obvious reason for that. He left behind his money, house keys and mobile phone and none of his friends or family have had any contact from him.
“We are concerned for his safety and would appeal to him to let us know he is safe. We are also asking anyone who has seen him or thinks they know where he might be to get in touch with us without delay.”
Anyone with information should call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting the incident reference 331-S-050612.
Issued: Wednesday, 06 June 2012”
